I've been an educator for over 30 years. As a Green Beret, we trained to teach others to survive and free themselves from oppression. As a military instructor, I trained our uniform services and law enforcement to combat terrorism. As a nursing instructor, I teach our next generation of nurses to provide quality care to those in need. So you understand why our motto is Survive, Thrive, Provide. We can teach you the way you learn. Our classes are low stress, fun, with open discussion replacing PowerPoints and realistic scenarios that help build confidence and teamwork.
The Basic Survival Course (BSC) is designed to help those who have little or no experience in survival, or bushcraft. Even if you have never been camping, this course is for you. This one-day course is relaxed, with little to no stress. We are in the business of teaching, not testing. Taught by a former US Army Green Beret, this course will give you the tools to survive and the confidence to use it. The world can be a scary place, it's less scary if you know how to survive it. You do not need to bring anything to the course, we'll supply you with all you need. You are welcome to bring any kit you have, but if you have no idea what to buy, use our tools and learn what you need to have.
The Wilderness Life Support for Medical Professionals, or WLS: MP was developed by AdventureMed whom we partner with. The course is designed to build on pre-existing medical knowledge and move it to the outdoors. This program is appropriate for any medical professional, or other healthcare members who are interested in using their medical training in an austere setting. WLS: MP is accredited for 21.25 CME's or 24.5 NCE (for nurses) and credit towards your FAWM (Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine) This course may be required for those wishing to work expeditionary medical events or mission trips. This is a three day course, hotels nearby, primitive camping on site allowed.
This Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course was developed by AdventureMed whom we partner with. This is an introduction to providing basic first aid in remote and/or austere environments. The course is 2 days, equaling approximately 20 hours of contact time. After taking this course you will be familiar with some of the most common backcountry problems. You’ll have some limited practice in evaluating, treating, and evacuating injured persons in wilderness settings. You’ll start to get a feel for what situations require medical assistance. e events.
This Wilderness First Responder (WFR)course was developed by AdventureMed whom we partner with. The course focuses on those with EMT, Fire/Rescue, and Paramedics experience who operate in a rural or mixed environment. WFR is designed to provide an individual with an in-depth knowledge of wilderness medicine and the basic skills to treat the most common injuries and illnesses encountered in the wilderness. This program is appropriate for professional guides and other non-medical people who want a deeper understanding of wilderness medicine.
In the world we live in, people have firearms. If you have little to no knowledge of firearms, you need this course. This is not a course on how to use firearms, it is a course to teach responders how to safely unload and clear a firearm so it is safe. This much neglected aspect of scene safety can be critical in austere environments both in the US and abroad. We will cover the major weapon types (AR, AK, semiautomatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, bolt action, and breech loading).
Most of our courses are held in Van, Texas, between Dallas and Shreveport, La. Easy access from Interstate 20. We offer primitive camping areas, RV covered parking, and hotels within a mile of the training site. Modern Shower and bathroom is available. Or we can come to you at your location if you have a company or group wishing to host a course. An up-charge to cover travel and boarding applies.

This past weekend I attended an absolutely fabulous Wilderness Life Support and Basic Survival course. I learned so much extremely useful information and also engaged in some awesome conversations with some truly gifted medical professionals. The didactic portion of the course was highly informative with the scenario based training portion really providing some invaluable tips in handling medical emergencies. Our instructors were absolutely amazing and I personally would rate each of them 10/10!!! I highly recommend seeking out and taking this course for any medical professional looking to expand their knowledge base in providing patient centered care.

If you're like me, you like medicine, the outdoors, and learning new things. What better way to combine all three than to take Glenn's course on Wilderness Life Support for Medical Professionals? Even with a background as an Eagle Scout and having lived, camped, and hiked in numerous countries around the world, I still found myself learning some fantastic new information! I learned things like infectious diseases, dive medicine protocols, avalanche procedures, and much more. I brought a tent and a small backpacking stove and camped out on the property to save money and time. Not a bad stay at all. There are guest bathroom facilities on site. Definitely recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn a new specialty of medicine or to those who just love all aspects of the outdoors. You will not regret it!

For some time I had been thinking, "What If we were far away from medical care, in the wilderness?"
It was your course that encouraged me to go on to earn an EMT and I'm now working on Advanced EMT. The course was also such fun, met some great people.
Would highly recommend.
